THCulture was formed on the ashes of (https://www.smarsw.com)]Smar SW, which ended its activity with the phenomenal album "Samobójstwo" - this is one of the best and most depressing albums in the history of our underground.

I like Yogi's current band not only for the music, but also for the fact that it operates on the outskirts of the so-called scene, or maybe even outside of it. THCulture plays something that could be called ethno-core, due to the original instruments used by the band (on "Old Sub Culture" replaced, if I understand correctly, by virtual instruments).

The hard core of THCulture responsible for the new album consists of Yogi and Żurek (formerly of Jesus Chrysler Suicide and Agressiva 69). The album also features, among others, Sezon, known from Smar SW, and it does good for the vocals. Let's add that this nicely released record hits the ears with great production.

This is already the fourth release by THCulture. Yogi consistently realizes his vision of heavy music: punk devoid of patterns. However, each of the four albums of the Rzeszów band differs from one another, so although it is a coherent vision, it is not monotonous. By the way, how time fucking flies: since the debut, "Trance Human Culture", 17 years have passed.

What tires me a bit in this very good album is its wordiness: at times it lacks a bit of air. There are also no "hits": my private underground hits on par with "Czeczenia" or "Ghetto Palestine".

Someone might also accuse THCulture of the band quoting itself, or even covering itself ("Liturgia"). However, it doesn't bother me. Especially when Sezon sings (or rather mumbles) lyrics from the first THCulture album. Then the transition between the last Smar SW album and THCulture seems somehow more fluid, even though "Samobójstwo" is already almost 20 years old.

Yogi's anti-system lyrics always stood out against the background of punk lyrics (meaning, of course, late Smar SW and THCulture). I like them because they contain phrases showing that the author has read something more in life than zines. The only thing that slightly pisses me off is the patronizing, mentoring tone that appears sometimes: we are expanding consciousness here, we don't have time to rush, and you, fuck, are staring at the TV. But I'm also interested in abolishing the penalty for freedom, so overall a high five and full support.

Minor remarks about "Old Sub Culture" fade into nothingness when the last - great, depressing - track, "Człowiek", resonates.

    where the concrete cracked

    they patched it with plastic

in the crater of nothingness they planted a banner

    with the inscription be nobody

    we live in loneliness

    in a hideous doom

    just as man arose

    so he lays down
