Being a lover of the music of the Rzeszów formation Smar SW, it was a natural step that I wanted to get acquainted with another band, which included the former guitarist and composer of this band - "Yogurth".
It was he, together with two other musicians ("Dominix" and "Jaco") who formed a band called THCulture on September 1, 1996 (just after the breakup of Smar SW).
Almost twenty-two years have passed since then and there have been huge changes in the team; the band has released four albums (the fifth is to be released this year), and only "Yogurth" (supported by changing musicians, and at one time acting as one person) remains.
As I mentioned earlier, the latest album will be released later this year, but for now, the last release of THCulture remains "Old Sub Culture".
The album consists of only a few, only nine songs, but a small number compensates us for the quality of the recordings, and we have to admit that there is really something to listen to.
Lyrically, on the fourth album of this Rzeszów formation there are no changes. We can hear here about rebellion against the surrounding reality, its rules, commands, limitations, and the subjugation of the individual.
However, the music has changed; is lighter than, for example, on his debut "Trance Human Culture" (1999).
The leader and founder is primarily responsible for "Old Sub Culture"; anyway, as I mentioned earlier, "Yogi" is the brains behind the whole project called THCulture.
On the last album THCulture he is supported by drummer "Żurek".
The release was graced by Agata Rybarczyk's guest appearances, whose voice can be heard in the first song entitled "Sisters" (it is manipulation and propaganda that are hidden under the title sisters. A piece identical not only with modern times) and - interestingly - "Sezon", which in the distant 90s collaborated together with "Yogi" in the already mentioned anarcho-punk Smar SW.
Listening to the second track entitled "Delirium" (by the way, one of my favorite tracks of this band), there is an echo of the old Slub SW, especially when the leader of THCulture vocally interjects his "three cents".
"Delirium" is not the only song in which we can hear the lead vocalist of Smar SW; However, I won't reveal it, it's worth reaching for the album.
Since we are talking about my favorite songs, I consider "Control" to be one of the best on the album - it starts inconspicuously, and after a while it gives the so-called rock.
Here, the duties of the vocalist have already been taken over by the leader.
One of the most interesting is also the song entitled "Code"; creates a specific atmosphere.
It is worth taking a look at the cover of the album, which adorns the band's fourth album, because after all, not only the lyrics are supposed to make you think; It depicts a large rubble and in its very center two elderly gentlemen in suits (perhaps politicians?), shaking hands. Indeed, meaningful.
The band THCulture is one of those groups on the music market that is really difficult to define and put into a rigid framework... But that's what it's all about!
THCulture is supposed to provoke thinking not only through lyrics, because music also plays a very important role.
After all, "you are supposed to do, not think" (the quote of "Sisters") is the antithesis of what the creator of this formation wants to convey to us.
